Malaysia s Home Ministry to acquire 600 body worn cameras for immigration officers

PUTRAJAYA – Malaysia’s Home Ministry is set to acquire 600 body-worn cameras for Immigration Department officers in its bid to address integrity issues, said Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim wanted to address integrity issues after receiving reports from the department’s director-general, said the Home Minister, during his speech at the ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri reception on April 24.

He added that the cameras will be delivered on April 28.

Mr Saifuddin said Datuk Seri Anwar has always emphasised the importance of professionalism among the enforcement agencies.

The Home Minister also announced that manual counters at most airports in Malaysia will be replaced with auto gates to reduce congestion.

Earlier, on April 23 at a ministerial awards ceremony for outstanding services, Mr Saifuddin relayed Mr Anwar’s message of appreciation to the Home Ministry staff for their service during the recent official visit of China’s President Xi Jinping.

To ate, more than 7,000 body-worn cameras are being used at 157 district police headquarters and 640 police stations.

Road Transport Department enforcement officers have also started using 100 body-worn cameras in 2025.

The aim of having enforcement officers use body-worn cameras is to reduce corruption and address integrity issues. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
