Trump says he hopes Russia will do the right thing on Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that his special envoy Steve Witkoff is in serious discussions with Russia about ending the war in Ukraine.

“Hopefully they’ll do the right thing,” Trump told reporters during an Oval Office meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.

Trump said he did not think Russia would attack U.S. allies.

Its not going to happen. Well make sure it doesnt happen, he said.

Witkoff was due to meet with Putin on Thursday night, Politico reported, citing Russian state-owned news outlet Izvestia. REUTERS
