This was his first time Boy with cerebral palsy joins race in Kedah with teacher pushing wheelchair
Despite being in a wheelchair, a boy in Kedah was included in a running event in school with the help of his teacher, who has earned the praise of netizens across Malaysia.
A viral video of the incident posted on TikTok by Ms Adeela Shakila shows her son Adam in his wheelchair, with a beaming smile on his face as he zooms past his peers. He is pushed by his teacher, Mr Fairus, who runs alongside other students.
The video has garnered more than 351,000 views in two days, and has gained more than 33,500 likes.
Commenting on the heart-warming incident, Ms Adeela said it was a day that Adam – who has cerebral palsy – had been anticipating most.
“This was his very first time... He has never participated in any sports activities. He was only able to watch his friends,” said Ms Adeela, adding that she felt deeply emotional when Adam and Mr Fairus ran by her.
“Thank you, Mr Fairus, for your sacrifice to give Adam this opportunity,” she added.
In an interview with Malaysia radio station Era, Mr Fairus – who has been teaching Adam since 2024 – said he noticed Adam’s interest during a similar event the year before.
He pushed Adam for about 4km during the running event in 2025, and said he would do it again for any future races if the opportunity arises.
Mr Fairus has taught at Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Terap since 2017, and teaches physical education, among other subjects.
The comment section of the TikTok video posted by Ms Adeela was filled with praises by netizens, who commended Mr Fairus’ selflessness.
“Thank you, Mr Fairus! Mothers from all over the country are praying that your life is filled with goodness and ease,” said one netizen.
