Saint Etienne v Lyon interrupted after assistant referee hit by object

A match in the French Ligue 1 between Saint-Etienne and Olympique Lyonnais was interrupted just before halftime on Sunday when an assistant referee was hit by an object thrown from the stands.

Lyon were about to take a throw-in in the 44th minute when one of the linesmen was shown holding a hand on his head after he was hit by what appeared to be a coin, LEquipe reported.

The referee was attended by Lyons medical team before players and officials all left the pitch.

The match was interrupted for about 40 minutes.

Hosts Saint-Etienne were leading 1-0 after a Lucas Stassin goal before the incident. REUTERS
