Singaporean golfer Hiroshi Tai poised to miss cut in Masters debut

AUGUSTA - A historic debut at the Masters for Singapore’s Hiroshi Tai ended on April 12, when the 23-year-old had a five-over par 77 in his second round for a six-over 150 two-day total.

Tai had put himself in a good position in the first round after carding a one-over 73 to place tied-38th. But the amateur golfer could not keep up the momentum in the next round, posting three bogeys on Nos. 4, 7 and 11 and a double bogey on the 15th.

His two-round score of 150 was not enough to take him through to the weekend, and he missed the two-over cut.

Nonetheless, it has been an exciting two days for Tai, who is playing in his first Masters – he had earned the spot after clinching a historic win at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Men’s Individual Championship in May 2024.

A month later, he became the first Singaporean to tee off at the US Open. For his achievements in the 2024 season, he was named the Male Golfer of the Year at the Singapore Golf Association Annual Gala and Awards dinner in December.
