Singaporean tourist injured in fall on Mount Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU - A Singaporean climber sustained injuries after falling at the 7.2km mark of Mount Kinabalu early on March 24 morning.

The 56-year-old woman was descending the mountain when she fell at around 7am.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said they received an emergency call at 7.33am.

Following the report, a team of 17 mountain search and rescue (Mosar) personnel, Sabah Parks rangers and health officials was deployed to the scene.

“The victim sustained head injuries from the fall and was unable to continue her descent.

“Mosar personnel, along with Sabah Parks staff, provided first aid to stop the bleeding,” Assistant Fire Superintendent Ridwan said in a statement on March 24.

The rescue team used a stretcher to transport the victim to Timpohon Gate, the main gateway to Mount Kinabalu.

“Upon arrival at Timpohon Gate, she was handed over to an ambulance team for further medical treatment.

“The fire department conducted a final safety check before concluding the operation at 12.04pm,” the station chief added. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
