PETALING JAYA - A crocodile has been sighted in the Klang River, near the Malayan Mansion building in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

It is believed this is the third time the same crocodile was spotted.

Kuala Lumpur Civil Defence Force officer Mej Ahmad Junaidi Dukut Soerharto said two teams were deployed to the location after receiving a report from the public at 10.19pm on March 8.

With the aid of the Royal Malaysia Police and the Department of Wildlife Protection and National Parks, the teams had prepared equipment to trap the reptile at 11pm, but it was no longer visible, Mej Ahmad said.

He added that the process of catching the crocodile is expected to take time due to weather factors and the strong river currents.

“It has been raining quite heavily lately, so the river current is strong where it poses a risk to our members to search and capture,” he said when contacted.

“Although the rain had stopped, there was the risk of lightning strikes.”

The public has been advised to avoid the area and report to the authorities if similar sightings are detected.

Previously, the crocodile, estimated to weigh almost 500kg, had been seen near Masjid Jamek on Jan 25, before appearing again near The Gardens Midvalley and KL Eco City shopping malls on Feb 20. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
