Squid Game guards are serving fruit juice at this Ramadan bazaar in Ipoh

IPOH – Besides the wide range of food found at the Meru Raya Ramadan Bazaar, near Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah, in Ipoh, “masked guards” from the popular South Korean drama series Squid Game are also present.

More interestingly, the masked guards are selling watermelon juice for the breaking of fast.

Inspired by the dystopian survival thriller, Ms Nur Nadira Muhammad Nazir decided to wear the iconic costume to sell King of Watermelon, which is a watermelon-flavoured drink.

The 21-year-old woman from Ipoh has been selling watermelon juice in various flavours at the bazaar since the first day of Ramadan.

“I chose to wear the Squid Game costume because I really liked the popular series. I used this idea to attract customers to our stall.

“I spent about RM300 (S$90) on the costumes and the doll, which is hung in front of the stall, other than also playing the Mingle game song Round And Round throughout the business session,” she said when interviewed by Bernama on March 5.

Ms Nur Nadira said the marketing gimmick has worked well since day one.

According to her, it is tough wearing the costume, but the non-stop sales take her mind away from the heat.

“Even though it is hot wearing the costume, my workers and I are still enthusiastic just to attract customers.

“There are times when the mask is taken off because the heat is unbearable,” she said.

Assisted by three workers, Ms Nur Nadira starts the business at 3pm until everything is sold out. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
