GEORGE TOWN - A 71-year-old Malaysian was killed after his motorcycle collided with another motorcycle on Penang Bridge on March 2.

George Town Deputy OCPD Superintendent Lee Swee Sak said the senior citizen was killed on the spot in the accident at about 8.30am. The other motorcyclist – a foreign national – sustained injuries and was taken to Penang Hospital for treatment.

Less than an hour later, another accident occurred on the bridge when a car collided with a factory bus at about 9.20am.

Supt Lee said the 46-year-old motorist and her 58-year-old passenger sustained injuries, while the 53-year-old bus driver was unharmed.

“The incident happened when the bus was switching lanes from the middle lane to the right lane,” he added.

The car approached the right rear of the bus before colliding with it.

As a result of the collision, the motorist lost control and veered into the opposite lane of the bridge.

Earlier, The Star news outlet reported that the car had crashed into a road divider, tore apart more than 10 divider panels and landed on the other side of the bridge.

Both accidents are being investigated under the Road Transport Act. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
