LRT services in KL disrupted after passenger falls onto tracks
KUALA LUMPUR – A visually impaired man died after falling onto railway tracks and getting struck by a train at the Titiwangsa Light Rail Transit (LRT) station in Kuala Lumpur early on Feb 22.
According to Malay-language portal Astro Awani, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said the man died at the scene.
Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Fadil Hesam Mohd said the victim was found under the LRT rail tracks.
“The operations centre received an emergency call at 8.38am through the Mers-999 system informing about the discovery of a body under the railway tracks,” he said.
He said following the report, officers from the Sentul and Titiwangsa Fire and Rescue Stations were dispatched to the location.
“Further investigations showed that the victim lost his balance and fell onto the LRT tracks before being hit by a train,” he said.
“The process of removing the body from the scene of the incident is being carried out carefully by the authorities to ensure safety and a smooth investigation process,” he added.
LRT operator Rapid Rail said train services at PWTC, Titiwangsa, Sentul and Sentul Timur stations were temporarily suspended following the incident.
“As a safety measure during the operations, they have deactivated the power supply at the station to make way for the police, fire department and ambulance, which are currently at the location to carry out extraction work,” it said.
“Alternative rail services, including free feeder bus services, were activated to support operations during the temporary closure,” it added. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
