ThailandBANGKOK - The Thai Meteorological Department announced that Thailand will officially enter the winter season on Oct 23, or about a week later than usual.
The cold weather will first appear in the north and north-east regions, gradually spreading to the central and eastern regions, while the south will continue to experience rain, with some areas receiving heavy to very heavy showers.
The onset of winter in Thailand means that temperatures in the upper regions will drop to consistently cool levels, with prevailing winds shifting to the north-east or east, and a marked reduction in rainfall.
Ms Suchada Thaensap, Secretary to the Minister of Digital Economy and Society and spokesperson for the ministry, said that winter does not mean all areas will become cold immediately.
The coldest period is expected between mid-December and early February 2026, with the average minimum temperature hovering around 21 to 22 deg C.
In the highlands and mountains of the north and upper north-east, including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Loei, Nakhon Phanom, and Sakon Nakhon, temperatures could drop to 7 or 8 deg C on some days, with frost likely.
In Bangkok and its surrounding areas, minimum temperatures are expected to be around 18 to 20 deg C.
Meanwhile, in the southern region, especially along the Gulf of Thailand, rainfall will remain frequent, with heavy showers possible from low-pressure systems and tropical cyclones, which may cause flash floods,
