Promising French Alpine skier Margot Simond died after an accident while training in Val dIsere on April 24, the French Ski Federation announced.

The 18-year-old had been scheduled to compete in the Red Bull Alpine Park event, created by Olympic champion Clement Noel, this weekend. The event has been cancelled following Simonds death.

Organisers said a doctor attempted to resuscitate Simond after she fell but she could not be revived.

French media reported an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

Simond was crowned French U-18 slalom champion last March and was regarded as a promising talent for the future of French Alpine skiing. REUTERS
