As Bangkok experienced tremors on March 28, a Korean man jumped across a broken sky walkway, 50 storeys above ground, to get from one swaying building to another where his wife and daughter were supposed to be.

Thai resident Kwon Young-jun’s feat has been captured on video and circulated online amid other indelible images of the earthquake in the Thai capital, such as those of a building collapsing into rubble and water spilling out of rooftop infinity pools.

He was exercising on the 52nd floor of one of three blocks at the Park Origin condominium in Thonglor when the earthquake struck, said his wife, an online personality and entrepreneur known as Ms Bowyuri, on March 30.

She and their daughter were in their residence on the 30th floor in a neighbouring block. All three buildings in the condominium complex are connected by sky bridges, which appeared to have been damaged by the quake with debris falling to the ground.

As the buildings swayed visibly, Mr Kwon leaped across a falling sky bridge to get to the other building to look for his family.

After he realised that they had already evacuated the block, he walked down more than 40 floors to reunite with his wife and one-year-old daughter outside the building, Ms Bowyuri said.

“It’s very dangerous. When I saw the clip, I was shocked like everyone else,” said the Thai beauty and skincare products entrepreneur on Facebook, who has more than 1.3 million followers online.

“The events that day happened so fast. No one was at their most mindful... Oppa just wanted to help the family... When Oppa told the story, it wasn’t this scary because he didn’t turn around to look,” she added, using the Korean term for big brother to refer to her husband and business partner.
